The Efficacy of Propentofylline on Symptoms of Cerebrovascular Disease

Abstract

|
We performed a prospective study using 30 consecutive patients with subacute cerebrovascular disease who showed neurologic as well as mental deficits in order to evaluate both the efficacy and the safty of Propentofylline, a xanthine derivative.
All
patients took 300mg Propentofylline daily for at least eight weeks. The evaluating measures included psychic, neurologic and subjective symptoms, activities of daily living, and Folstein's mini mental state examination. which were checked after 4
weeds
and 8 weeks of medication. The percentage of improved patients after 8 weeks of medication was 80.0% in overall psychic symptoms. 82.2% in subjective symptoms. 61.7% in neurologic symptoms and 65.5% in activities of daily living. Three patients
(10.0%)
showed mild and transient adverse reactions which were headache and gastric discomfort.
